The ADR committee of St. Joseph’s College of Law organised the 3rd Intra College Mediation Competition on the 7th & 8th of February 2024. The competition witnessed a total of 24 participating teams from across all batches. The competition was divided into three rounds, the preliminary round, the semifinal round and the final round. The participants were briefed about the rules of the competition and manner of conducting mediation proceedings and its nuances.

On 7th February we had a preliminary round and Semi-final round wherein the problem revolved around a mediation proceeding between two brothers involved in the same family business having difference of opinion regarding the transfer of shares in the company. This problem was designed to equip the participants with the concepts of company law and SEBI regulations. 8 out of the participating teams qualified for the semi final round and was provided with a different confidential information to challenge the participants and push their limits. From a top 8 teams two client counsel pair and 2 mediators proceeded to the final round.

The final round of the 3rd Intra College Mediation Competition took place on 8th February 2024 at the AV room. The final round was judged by Mr. Bharat Kumar Mehta a certified Mediator and a practicing advocate with more than 15 years of experience. The final round problem revolved around a dispute regarding supply of certain products and the failure and non-payment of the goods. The participants had to deliver the best for their companies and the mediators had to identify the issue and help the parties reach common consensus. After a cut throat competition Mr. Bharat Kumar addressed the participants, provided them with valuable feedback and addressed the gathering about the need for mediation and the new Mediation Bill 2024. After the address by the judge the results were announced, the winning pair was Ms. Dhwani Jain and Shreya Devdas from 4th BBA LLB, the best Mediator was awarded to Ms. Meghna Joseph of 5th BBA LLB.
