The Constitution Club in collaboration with SC/ST Cell organised a commemorative programme on Ambedkar Jayanti on 15th April 2026 from 9:45 AM to 10:15 AM at the Quadrangle, St. Joseph’s College of Law, Bengaluru. The event was conducted to honour the life and legacy of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and to reflect on his contributions to constitutionalism, justice, and equality.

The programme began with the Welcome Address, which formally welcomed the Principal, Dr. Pauline Priya; Vice Principal, Ms. Shobha Hegde; Finance Officer, Fr. Harry Terry, SJ; faculty members, and students. The address highlighted Dr. Ambedkar’s role as the principal architect of the Indian Constitution and his vision of law as an instrument of social justice and transformation.

This was followed by a speech by a student of the college on the life and contributions of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The garlanding ceremony of Dr. Ambedkar’s portrait was then conducted by the dignitaries, accompanied by a solo performance by a student of the college, which added a reflective and respectful tone to the programme.

The Principal, Dr. Pauline Priya, addressed the gathering, reflecting on the continued relevance of Ambedkar’s ideals in contemporary society. A cultural performance followed, showcasing themes of justice and equality inspired by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The programme also included the unveiling of an exhibition that thoughtfully traced Ambedkar’s journey—from his early years as a determined student overcoming social barriers, to his evolution as a distinguished scholar, and ultimately to his pivotal role as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. The exhibition was designed to provide a chronological and thematic understanding of his life, highlighting key milestones, writings, and contributions. To further engage students, a photo booth was set up at the venue, allowing participants to interact with the theme of the event in a creative and memorable way. A special segment featured a student of the college who delivered a powerful rendition inspired by the vision and writings of Dr. Ambedkar. The programme concluded with a final song, followed by the Vote of Thanks and a group photograph of dignitaries and participants.

Outcome:
The event successfully honoured the legacy of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and enabled students to engage meaningfully with constitutional values such as justice, equality, and fraternity.
