Arche Moot Court Competition

The Moot Court Society of St. Joseph’s College of Law, Bangalore, organized Arche Moot Court Competition, 2023-24 (AMCC) for the first-year students of Law pursuing BA.LL.B., BBA.LL.B., B.Com. LL.B. and LL. B Programmes. The Objective of the competition is to develop the skills of written and oral advocacy among students and Strive to give students exposure to courtroom procedure and practice from the first year

Proposition details:
This year's AMCC proposition is based on medical negligence and was drafted by faculty Coordinator Mr. Zafar with the assistance of Mr. Prajwal and Mr. Chui. The bench memorandum for the same was drafted by Mr. Prajwal, Mr. Chui, Mr. Saifi, Mr. Swapnil, and Ms. Safa, student coordinators of MCS.

Event Details:
AMCC consisted of 4 Main Events - Researcher’s test, Draw of lots, Memorial Evaluation and Oral Rounds. The Draw of lots was conducted on 7th February, 2024 and Researcher’s test was conducted on 8th February 2024. The oral arguments were conducted on 10th February 2023.

Researcher’s Test
The MCS is grateful to the faculty Prof. Ms. Sangeetha, Prof. Ms. Tejaswsini, Prof. Mr. Harish, Prof. Mr. Surjeeth, Prof. Mr. Satyaki and Prof. Ms. Ayman for supervising the researcher’s test. The researcher’s Test was conducted to test the student’s ability to examine their understanding and researching skills based on the moot problem. It was a pen and paper based MCQ test with a total of 60 questions. The duration of the test was 60 minutes.

❖ Draw of lots
The MCS is grateful to Prof. Mr. Ashish and Prof. Mr. Thomas Alexander for conducting the draw of Lots. The sides to be argued by the teams were decided by a draw of lots on the 7th February 2024, prior to the commencement of the oral rounds of competition. The Memorials of the opposite teams were duly exchanged immediately after the draw of lots.

❖ Memorial Evaluation
The participating teams in the AMCC had to submit a soft copy and three hard copies of the memorials from both sides of the petition. The same was meticulously evaluated by our own Alumni of our college Ms. Yamini, Mr. Akhilesh, Mr. Suman, Ms. Maeen Mavara, Ms. Deeksha, as per the criteria provided to them.

❖ Oral Rounds
The oral rounds were conducted on 10th February 2024 from 10.30 AM to 1.30 PM. A total of 98 teams registered but only 77 teams who submitted the memorials reached the oral rounds of the Competition. They were judged by the alumni of our college and External Judges. Every team was required to argue as per the side allotted according to Draw of Lots. The oral rounds were divided into two rounds. The first Round of the competition was held between 10.30 am to 11.30 am and Round 2 was held between 12.00 pm to 1.30 pm. Prof. Mr. Harish, Prof. Mr. Moses and Prof. Ms. Ayman managed the hospitality of the judges. The scores of the teams were recorded under the supervision of Prof. Ms. Madhura, Prof. Mr Ashish, Prof. Mr. Thomas Alexander, Prof. Ms. Swathi. Verification of accounts were done by Professors Dr. Gagan, Prof. Ms. Surya, Prof. Mr. Sudeep, Prof. Mr. Surjeeth, Prof. Mr. Geo.

Valedictory:
The Valedictory ceremony was on 14th February 2024 at 9.50 AM and went on till 10.10 AM. By thanking all the participants and volunteers, the MCS announced the prize categories with respective winners.
The individual awards were distributed by the Principal and the team awards were distributed by the Director.
