INTERNAL RANKING ROUND MOOT COURT COMPETITION

The Moot Court Society, St. Joseph’s College of Law, Bangalore successfully conducted the Internal Ranking Round Moot Court Competition for the Academic Year 2025–26 on 19th and 20th September. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from 86 teams, comprising students from 2nd year to 5th year across various courses, reflecting a strong culture of mooting and advocacy at SJCL.

The Internal Ranking Rounds were organised with the objective of developing students’ written and oral advocacy skills, providing exposure to courtroom procedure and practice, and identifying the best-performing teams to represent SJCL at various National Moot Court Competitions during the academic year 2025–2026.

The moot problem revolved around the validity of consent in contractual relationships and consumer protection in the digital context. It examined whether consent obtained through threats of denying access to essential but unrelated services amounted to coercion or undue influence under the Indian Contract Act, 1872, whether a specific clause in a digital service agreement was unconscionable and opposed to public policy, and whether the defendants’ conduct constituted an unfair trade practice under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

The rounds were marked by high-quality memorials, rigorous legal research, and persuasive oral submissions. The competition concluded with the following results and awards:
