THE DEBATE CAMP

The first ever Debate Camp unfolded over two dynamic and thought-provoking sessions that explored culturally significant themes reflecting India’s diversity.

The 1st session focused on the proposition of declaring idly as India’s national food.

The 2nd session debated the contentious issue of whether Hindi should be declared India’s national language. The debate delved into constitutional articles, historical legacies, and social implications, with concerns about linguistic imposition potentially fuelling regionalism and cultural alienation. One argument highlighted the colonial legacy of English and the need for cultural continuity through indigenous languages. The discussion also noted the adaptability of Hindi, which has been localized across various states, and the practical advantages Hindi offers for communication within India’s vast population.

In conclusion, the Debate Camp successfully brought to light the complex layers of cultural identity, regional diversity, and social dynamics that shape contemporary India.
