Outreach to Anekal Brick Making Community

On 13th September 2025, the first-year LL.B batch of St. Joseph’s College of Law undertook an outreach program to a brick making community in Anekal. The day began with a visit to Jnana Jyoti School, run by the Jesuits, where they were warmly welcomed . A short interaction with the cheerful children created a positive start for the day.

They then proceeded to a brick making community in Anekal, which proved to be an eye-opening experience. Observing the strenuous brick-making process, they also participated by moulding and arranging bricks. The workers shared their daily struggles, especially health issues from constant dust exposure and difficulties in accessing transport during the rainy season. The student’s interactions extended to the workers’ families, where they engaged with children through songs, dance and games. Grocery kits were distributed as a gesture of solidarity and support by the students to each family in the community. The day concluded with lunch followed by a reflective discussion led by the faculty, encouraging them to think critically about the social realities they had witnessed.

The outreach sensitized the students about the hardships faced by marginalised communities and reminded them of the importance of empathy in the practice of law.

The outreach group from St. Joseph’s College of Law consisted of all students of I LLB batch, , I LLB Class Mentor Ms. Ancy Susan George, Finance Officer Fr. Harry Terry SJ and the Counsellor Ms. Precella.
