ENVIRONMENT IMPACT ASSESSMENT WORKSHOP

Environment law and climate justice committee (ELCJ) put together an immersive hands-on learning workshop for students on exploring the facets of mapping and understanding the micro and macro factors of environment impact assessment mechanisms on 14 October 2025. Mr Yashas Bharadwaj, a herpetologist and western ghats specialist guided over 60 students in carefully analysing the local as well as the wider environment through history and evolution. Emerging challenges between exploitation and exploration, conservation and competition, natural disasters and man made conflicts as well as stress on the livelihoods through habitat destruction and endangering were highlighted. As the lecture concluded, students were divided into groups of five. This group simulation allowed students to see the area as a top-down and engage the consequences from a bottom-up approach. With each team suggesting changes of green cover and increased lung spaces on campus and beyond, the workshop helped students engage meaningfully with the living spaces and respect for the environment.
