From a fully automated library and a purpose-built Moot Court Hall to a modern auditorium and sports facilities, St. Joseph’s College of Law offers dedicated spaces for every part of academic and campus life.
The Library and Information Centre is the academic heart of St. Joseph’s College of Law. Students and staff have access to a wide array of books, magazines, journals, encyclopaedias, annual reports and e-library resources. The library regularly subscribes to leading publications, national journals, magazines and daily newspapers, catering to the needs of the entire student body.
The library is fully automated and has a spacious reading hall that can accommodate one hundred users at any point of time. It houses an impressive collection of AIR reports, Privy Council reports, Federal Court reports, Supreme Court and High Court reports, and criminal law journals, along with an expanding collection of books in the social sciences relevant for both general and course reading.
Moot court exercises are mandated by the course requirements to equip students with the skills of language, writing, argument and legal etiquette that apply across a wide variety of legal situations. At St. Joseph’s College of Law, these exercises are regularly conducted in a Moot Court Hall specially designed for the purpose, giving students the experience of arguing in a courtroom setting.
The Moot Court Hall is home to the activities of the Moot Court Society, including internal ranking rounds, the Arche Moot Court Competition for first-year students, and the annual SJCL National Moot Court Competition, now in its sixth edition. The hall is also used for trial advocacy and client counselling exercises.
The College’s spacious, gallery-type lecture and seminar halls are equipped with the latest audio-visual facilities for an enhanced learning experience. The AV Room supports presentations, film and documentary screenings, webinars and interactive sessions, allowing faculty and guest speakers to bring multimedia into the classroom.
The room is regularly used for guest lectures, online conferences with speakers from India and abroad, and sessions organised by student committees.
The Conference Hall provides a professional setting for seminars, workshops, panel discussions, group discussions and guest lectures from industry and academia. Seminar halls that accommodate large groups at a time are used often for such academic engagements.
The hall is also used for paper presentations, technical sessions of conferences, faculty development programmes and meetings with visiting delegations and partner institutions.
The Auditorium is the College’s main venue for large gatherings and events. It hosts orientation programmes, conferences, national and international seminars, cultural programmes, award ceremonies, the Investiture Ceremony of the Student Council and other institutional events.
Equipped with sound and projection facilities, the Auditorium allows the entire College community to come together for events that mark the academic and cultural life of SJCL.
The Board Room is used for meetings of the College’s management, statutory bodies and committees, including the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, the Examination Committee and other governance bodies.
It also serves as a venue for meetings with visiting dignitaries, recruiters, partner institutions and resource persons, and for interviews and smaller academic discussions.
St. Joseph’s College of Law believes that physical fitness, teamwork and sportsmanship are an essential part of a well-rounded education. Students have access to sports facilities on the St. Joseph’s campus and are encouraged to take part in a range of indoor and outdoor games.
The Sports Committee organises the College’s sports events and intra-college tournaments, and coordinates the participation of student teams and athletes in inter-collegiate and university-level competitions. The annual Alumni vs Faculty sports meet brings together former students and teachers in a spirit of friendly competition.
Every space at SJCL is built to support rigorous legal education, hands-on advocacy and a vibrant campus life.
