Draft, Debate and Legislate

"Draft, Debate, and Legislate", a drafting competition aimed at offering students a chance to engage with legislative drafting, argument formulation, and presentation was held on April 7th, 2025. The participants were to draft an amendment or a new legislation related to gender laws. Students were judged on both their written submissions and oral presentations. The written drafts were evaluated for legal language, soundness, originality, feasibility, and impact, while the oral presentations were assessed based on argumentation, rebuttal, convincing ability, and adaptability.

Some examples of the submissions were amendments to the Maternity Benefits Act to include paternity leave, the mandatory inclusion of women in clinical trials, and the expansion of rape laws.

The event was a success and created a platform for students to explore gender-based laws through drafting and debate.
