Survey and Legal awareness initiative at Cox Town Slum

A Survey was conducted by the students of St. Joseph’s College of Law as part of a social outreach and legal awareness initiative. The objective of the visit was to interact with the residents, spread legal awareness, and collect relevant socioeconomic information through a household survey.

The programme commenced with an entertainment and engagement session organized by the students in order to gather the residents in the common area and create a friendly atmosphere. Songs were played to invite the residents, following which the students presented a group song. This was followed by a legal awareness skit focusing on the issue of domestic violence and highlighting the importance of education. The session concluded with a dance performance in which some of the residents enthusiastically participated.

There were more than seventy houses in the area, and the students were divided into groups of four for effective data collection. Each team visited the households and gathered information using survey forms provided by the college. The survey included details relating to house ownership, availability of vehicles, legal issues faced by the families, pending court cases, and possession of important identification and welfare documents such as Aadhaar Card, Ration Card, E-Shram Card, Labour Card, BPL Card, Birth Certificate, and Death Certificate.
