Tech Law and Public Policy Webinar Summary

The Corporate Law Committee of St. Joseph's College of Law hosted a webinar titled "Introduction to Public Policy: From Ideas to Impact" for the 2025 batch of first-year students, focusing on tech law and policy, particularly the role of technology and AI in shaping public policy. Delivered by alumna Ms. Himali Sylvester, a TMT lawyer transitioning from Ikigai Law to SAM's tech law department, the session covered tech policy essentials—like data privacy, cybersecurity, AI governance, and the policy-law interplay via a Venn diagram—while stressing its necessity to responsibly guide innovations amid rapid tech evolution. Key highlights included a five-year career roadmap (reading tech news, writing blogs, certifications/internships, targeted firm applications, and networking for PPOs), a live policy drafting simulation on regulating deepfakes under India's Digital Safety Act balancing free speech and harm prevention, and takeaways urging early engagement, continuous learning, visibility, practical experience, and enforceable idealism.
