Screening of Wild Karnataka and Talk on “Challenges to Wildlife Conservation and Human- Animal Conflict” on 5th December, 2022

On 5th December, 2022 the Environmental Law and Climate Justice Committee screened ‘Wild Karnataka’, narrated by Sir David Attenborough and music composed by Grammy Award Winner, Ricky Kej. The documentary screening was organized with the objective of making students aware about Karnataka's rich biodiversity. The screening saw active participation from students across all batches. The screening was followed by an interactive session by Dr. Sanjay Gubbi, renowned Conservation Biologist and Scientist at Holématthi Nature Foundation and Nature Conservation Foundation, Mysore. Dr. Gubbi addressed students on the topic, “"Challenges to Wildlife Conservation and Human- Animal Conflict".

He redefined ‘wildlife’ for the students, busting several myths and broadening their perspective on what it comprises. He elaborated on how wildlife conservation is intrinsically connected with habitat conservation. His insights drawn from his real-life experiences of wildlife conservation made students rethink about the effectiveness of conservation laws in India.

Students and Faculty members actively engaged with Dr. Gubbi through interesting and thought- provoking questions throughout the session. The session made everyone introspect on their role as part of the legal community to ensure sensitivity to the challenges faced in wildlife conservation.
